A Salute to Vietnam Veterans

Mark your Calendars:  Sunday, October 9, 2022, 1:00 p.m. A Salute to Vietnam Veterans luncheon and presentation of Vietnam Veteran Lapel Pins, sponsored by The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 109 and The American Legion Post 109. The Auxiliary is an approved partner of the United States Vietnam War Commemoration Program. 

Vietnam Veterans who have not yet received the Vietnam Veterans Lapel pin, are invited,  along with one guest to enjoy a luncheon, on us, and a ceremony to receive the pin and be welcomed home! This applies to active military service between 11/1/55—5/15/75, regardless of location of service.  Each veteran, who has not yet received one will receive a Vietnam Veteran’s lapel pin “A lasting memento of our Nation’s thanks.”  

Pins are also available to a surviving spouse of a Vietnam Veteran who was married to the veteran at the time of death.   Please click here for details on what certificates and 

Our special guest and speaker for this event is Col. John "Ace" Astle USMC retired, a decorated Vietnam Veteran who saw active duty as a helicopter pilot. He is also a former Maryland State Senator who got Governor Hogan to sign off on "Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day" on March 29th of each year.  Senator Astle is the subject of the novel "Jungle Combat,"  which contains transcripts of the recorded letters he sent to his mother during his service in Vietnam from 1968 - 1969.   Click here for more information

Vietnam Veterans who have not yet received the pin, and their one guest, are treated for lunch.  Additional guests and Vietnam Veterans who received a pin at a prior event are welcome to join us for $15.00 each. 

Pins and certificates of honor are also available to:

Former Living American Military POW - as listed by the Department of Defense.  If the former POW is deceased a pin may be given to the surviving spouse.

In Memory of  - Immediate family members (parent, spouse, sibling, child) of a Vietnam Veteran listed on the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington DC.

Unaccounted forImmediate family members (parent, spouse, sibling, child) of a Vietnam Veteran listed as missing or unaccounted for from the Vietnam War at the Department of Defense. 

Surviving Spouse -  For a surviving spouse who was wed to a Vietnam Veteran, who served between 11/1/1955 - 5/15/1975, regardless of service location.

Attendees must register to attend, either in person in the Post Canteen, online with the above link, or by calling Margaret Henn at 410-789-2019 - be sure to leave a message if there is no answer.  She will return the call.   Seating is limited, and if you qualify to receive a pin, please try to register by 9/15/22.
